Homes in Golan real estateThe Israeli government is offering a new Israel real estate incentive and benefit program to new immigrants should they decide to make their home outside the country’s large cities in the north or the south of Israel.

The new program operated by the Israeli Immigrant Absorption Ministry together with the Negev and Galilee Development Ministry seeks to boost Aliyah of young immigrant families in peripheral cities in the Negev and the Galilee. Under the terms of the program, new immigrants who are eligible for the benefits, will be provided with a one-time grant of NIS 1,200 and additional assistance services and help in settling down in the designated areas apart from the standard immigration package to which they are entitled to. For this purpose, the participating municipalities will get special budgets for the establishment of educational and entertainment services for new immigrants and their children.

The government announced this week that it is launching a six-month pilot program for the initiative in the cities of Beersheba, Dimona, Tiberias, Karmiel, Migdal Ha’emek, Nahariya, Upper Nazareth, Acre, Arad, Safed, Katzrin, and new developments in the Negev and Galilee.

The program developers hope that the benefits will attract in particular young couples to live outside the big cities, which are areas that are more affordable than the center of the country where Israel property prices have surged to a peak. It is expected that the program will advance development of housing projects, and strengthen industry and education for new immigrants settling in the peripheral cities in the north or south of the country.

The ministries involved in the program said that a budget of up to NIS 5,500,000 will be allocated to implement the program. For the end of this year, the ministries expect the absorption and settlement of about 212 immigrant families in the designated areas in the north or the south.

According to the Immigrant Absorption Ministry, 17,000 new immigrants were absorbed in 2009 out of which more than the majority settled in big cities in the center of the country, while about 2,500 decided to live in peripheral cities.
