Posted on 02. Jul, 2010 by DebbieG.
In recent years, an array of choices of countertops (collectively known as shayish) have become available in Israel, from granite, wood, engineered stone to glass. One of the most important elements in the home, both functionally and visually, is the flooring. The two primary groups of flooring types are stone-based and wood-based. Kivunei Avir: Which Way is the Wind Blowing?
Posted on 08. Feb, 2010 by buyitinisrael.
When buying a home in Israel, one of the first items to consider is the direction of exposures (kivunei avir). As with most issues in Israel, everyone has a strong opinion about which exposures are preferable. But before we talk about opinions, let’s look at some facts: The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Presuming there is nothing blocking your window, you will get morning sun in the east and afternoon sun in the west….

Posted on 26. Jan, 2010 by buyitinisrael.
In the past twenty years or so, Israeli builders (Kablanim) have discovered what they call a ‘pinat mishpacha’. This is their version of what was invented in North America as the family room. However, something was lost in the translation. A pinat mishpacha literally means a ‘family corner’. But having an extra zone outside the bedroom area may not be so practical, so let’s think about what this space can do for us in our home in Israel:

How many homes in Israel have you visited that were beautifully furnished but still had bare light bulbs hanging from the ceiling? There must be something about lighting that relegates it to the bottom of the list in planning our homes. I have a theory that this is a result of a lack of understanding of how to plan correct lighting. Let’s see what we can do about that.
