HISTORY & COMMUNITY

Since its establishment in 1922 by American Jewish pioneers, Raanana has developed from a small agricultural settlement to one of Israel’s thriving and desirable cities for young families and an ever growing Anglo-French community. The city is renowned for offering its residents a high quality of life, excellent education system, athletic and leisure activities, active community and cultural life aimed at new immigrants in their own language. Ra’anana today is home to 78,000 residents where thousands of new immigrants mainly from the US, Canada, Britain, South Africa, France and Russia, have settled down next to veteran Israelis.

The immigrant community is served by Ra’anana’s Absorption Center and the Municipal Absorption Unit offering support and advice before aliyah and during the absorption process, as well as, by the Ulpan, together with other language programs. The pluralistic nature of the city has given birth to a  wide choice of synagogues, some of which serve the new immigrant population in particular.

Raanana is a city of parks, trees and flowers committed to preserving and protecting a clean and healthy environment and promoting green initiatives boasting an extensive recyling system.
