Zev Shalev (1950-2010)

We mourn the untimely death of our dear friend, writer and interior designer, Zev Shalev.

Zev was born in New York in 1950 and made Aliyah in the early seventies. For the past twenty-five years Zev was a residential space planner, primarily, although not exclusively, for the English speaking, observant community in Israel and abroad.  His fields of specialization were creative space utilization in general, and planning kitchens and bathrooms in particular.

Zev passed away suddenly on Sunday April 4 2010, Chol Hamoed Pesach 5770 just weeks before his 60th birthday.  Zev had an impact on thousands of Jewish homes in Israel and abroad.  His amazing eye for space-planning and design together with his boundless knowledge of materials, suppliers and experts, will be remembered and appreciated for many, many years by homeowners in Israel who were fortunate to have Zev design their homes.

Many of Zev’s clients would use his services on a regular basis for redesigning rooms in the house or utilising space in the home more efficiently. To Zev, no job was too big or too small.  Whether, an hour’s consultation or a full project management contract, Zev gave his clients undivided attention and professional service to the highest degree.

Zev was known to be an expert designer who was able to take any space and make it “work, but most importantly Zev will always be remembered as a true Mensh.  His unique style, extensive experience and fantastic personality were a winning combination which is why he was so successful in his career and how he built up his business almost entirely on word-of-mouth recommendations.  Zev’s passing has created a tremendous void for Israel home-buyers and home-owners which will be difficult to fill.

At Buy-It In Israel, we are grateful and honored to have had Zev write articles for us.  He will be sorely missed by our readers, clients and staff.  Zev is survived by his wife, 3 children and 6 grandchildren. May the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
